When it’s time to remodel, some people think they have to become instant experts on it all — from construction to design. Truth is, you can assemble a team of professionals to concentrate solely on their specialty as you lead them in helping you realize your vision.
Of course one good component of that team should be an interior designer. Here are some things to consider when choosing a design company:
- Interview the owner and design team to get a feel for whether they fit your lifestyle and personality. It’s important you “click” with the team.
- What is their level of creativity, and depth and breadth of expertise, based on their portfolio?
- What about their business acumen and financial strength?
- What is their reputation in the community and among clients? Ask for three referrals.
On the flip side, be prepared to show your vision to the interior design team at your first meeting. Consider creating a folder of clippings from publications that match your style and wishes.
